Essie Summer: North Folk Collection Swatches

Essie Summer 09

Grab your sunglasses, beach towel and a little SPF this summer and get ready to sail your blues away with Essie's new North Folk collection.

This summer Essie introduces two releases for summer - North Folk and The Neons.

North Folk is a  small collection of three fun, yet watery shades that take you back to those lazy summer days.

Bravo, Bravo, Essie! And another Bravo for the fabulous blue colaboration this summer!  Essie must of been listening, this collection goes out to the nail polish lovers that have been longing for unique shades such as,  Starry Starry Nights and Dominica Green.

Overall, everything about this collection is amazing, including the dreamy application. All my swatches were done with two coats and no visible problems.

Check em' out.

Essie Greenport nail polish

Essie Summer 09: North Folk Collection

Greenport - a minty blue green creme that's gorgeous. A lighter version of Misa's Dirty Sexy Money, but not an exact dupe.

Essie Sag Harbor nail polish

Essie summer collection 09

Sag Harbor - Wow, this is HOT! Described as a powder blue shimmer with grey undertones that's amazing. Not quite a "traditional" duochrome, but it definitely changes from gray to powder blue in different lighting.

What you can't see, the gorgeous gray undertones that's more apparent in real life.

Essie Shelter Island nail polish

Essie North Folk summer collection

Shelter Island - a bright sky blue creme that's not too bright, but not too dull.

Essie's North Folk collection is now available at Essie, Beauty Salons, or online at Head2Toe.

Hey Steph, I have been waiting for TransDesign to get these before I order them. I still can not find them on their site. Any suggestions? Holly

Loving Shelter Island.. kinda reminds me of Just Groovy, OPI

I just picked these up at Ulta. I almost didn't get sag harbour because to me it doesn't look blue/grey. Its looks grey to me. Your picks look different than the product in the bottle irl.

Hi Holly - I picked up the North Folk Collection at I emailed Transdesign a few weeks ago and they were unable to confirm when they were going to get this collection in stock. I checked with Head2Toe around the same time and they let me know they would receive them around the end of the month. Hope that helps.

Hi brooklynbabe, Yep! A very pretty collection. Hi Holly, It looks like Trans Design isn't going to have them for a awhile. Can you order from Head2Toe? Looks to be Head2Toe is the only one online :) Hi Bella, I really loved them all! Hi rmcandlelight, Yeah, it's a tricky one that's really hard to capture. Although, I really love the gray appeal to it :) Hi SW, Thanks so much for chiming in, your a doll :)

Is greenport a dupe of China Glaze For Audrey?

Steph said on Apr 15th, 2009 6:44 am

Hi Steph,
Love your blog. You wrote: Always wrap the free edge or tip throughout each step. I didn't see this step in the video. Could you please explain how to do the wrap process and with what material. Thank you.

I am wondering if these gel polishes can be used with other gels. I have a different system with a different brand of base coat and top coat, can the different brands of gel mix?

I've had my kit for a couple of months now and love the way it lasts; but the Structure and Brilliance brushes are starting to stiffen and so is the gel in the bottles. Anyone else having that issue? Is there a way to thin them out?

Hi, does anyone know if I can thin out the red carpet base coat so that it is easier to apply?

Hi Prinzy,
It was a gorgeous color! I remember picking up a few bottles because I loved the color so much! lol! Actually, yes, I'm launching a store in the next couple of weeks. I have everything built, I'm just working on the Terms and Conditions right now, so it should be very, very soon.

I only have about 10 Studio M colors in the store currently, but I will be taking special pre-orders once it opens.

Hi Sarah,
I'm not sure about retail stores, but you can still find them on

Can I still buy them in the stores now?

I've been playing with this system for about a month now. I love it! When I first started I used the clear just so I could get a feel for it. Then I got adventurous and tried a "sandwich" with a China Glaze color. It probably would have stayed on longer if I had been able to seal off the edges, but my nails were so short it was a bit difficult. The next time I used RCM gel polish in Simply Stunning (a pale slightly shimmery nude color). This time I had gotten enough practice to really make my coats thin and it worked out fabulous. I'm trying to send all my friends the Ulta 20% coupon (5/26 is the last day) so they can get a kit for about $64. :) Now I hope to get a little creative with color combos and nail design. Thanks for the review.
