Nail Polish of the Day: Dior Purple Candy

Dior Purple Candy Summer nail polish

dior purple nail polish summer 09

I want Candy... Introducing Dior's newest vernis addition, Purple Candy. Part of the Summer 09 Cristal Collection, is a magenta pink with a splash of violet undertones that has very subtle shimmer. The shimmer is so subtle in this one, I'd be more comfortable grouping this as a creme.

Overall, Purple Candy is a little more "pinkish" than I imagined, but a nice universal color all around. And, not to mention the fantastic application. The high shine formula is excellent and applied smooth as butter like most Dior nail polishes. Perfecto formula wise.

My swatches were used with three coats except on my pinky finger, which was with two. Purple Candy is definitley a two coater. Even with three coats, the color pretty much stayed the same.

One more swatch below.

Just to give you an idea where Purple Candy falls, I paired up with my pedi using Color Club's Electro Candy. I haven't attempted to look at my comparisons, but I'd say there's a few alternatives to Purple Candy.

Just to clairfy, Dior's has a total of 5 summer nail polishes. Most of them being "pink toned" except Sweet Orange. Next week, I'll be posting all five.

Paprika (nordstrom exclusive), Grenade (macys exclusive), Sweet Orange (sephora exclusive), Purple Candy and Bubble Gum (dior counter) and retails for $20.00/ea. Have a great Wednesday!

I love this! I've been trying to find purple candy online without much luck.

I cant wait to see the pics of all 5! I just got Purple Candy yesterday, and I definitely know what you mean by the shimmer being extremely subtle! In the first and second pic, its looks like what I sometimes call 'a jellyish creme' or a 'creme jelly' where its a creme, but has that kind of 'juiciness' a jelly has...I know I'm going to far, but if you get what I'm trying to describe, would you agree?

Beautiful swatches!! Any dupes or do I have to shell out the $18 for this beauty? :P

Aww, thanks Vanessa :) Hi Britt, It should start popping up at the Dior counters soon. Hopefully it will be up in a couple weeks! Hi Outspokenwallflower, I agree! Purple Candy has some awesome shine to it, as most of Dior's... Love that high shine! Hi Rijah, Yah, there's prob going to be alot of potential dupes out there! Hi Jess, Heck no! A close dupe (not exact) I have is Orly's Samba from the Carnivale spring collection (search in my photo gallery for pic). Orly's don't have any shimmer that Dior's does, but its also so subtle you can't even notice :)

Hi Steph,
Love your blog. You wrote: Always wrap the free edge or tip throughout each step. I didn't see this step in the video. Could you please explain how to do the wrap process and with what material. Thank you.

I am wondering if these gel polishes can be used with other gels. I have a different system with a different brand of base coat and top coat, can the different brands of gel mix?

I've had my kit for a couple of months now and love the way it lasts; but the Structure and Brilliance brushes are starting to stiffen and so is the gel in the bottles. Anyone else having that issue? Is there a way to thin them out?

Hi, does anyone know if I can thin out the red carpet base coat so that it is easier to apply?

Hi Prinzy,
It was a gorgeous color! I remember picking up a few bottles because I loved the color so much! lol! Actually, yes, I'm launching a store in the next couple of weeks. I have everything built, I'm just working on the Terms and Conditions right now, so it should be very, very soon.

I only have about 10 Studio M colors in the store currently, but I will be taking special pre-orders once it opens.

Hi Sarah,
I'm not sure about retail stores, but you can still find them on

Can I still buy them in the stores now?

I've been playing with this system for about a month now. I love it! When I first started I used the clear just so I could get a feel for it. Then I got adventurous and tried a "sandwich" with a China Glaze color. It probably would have stayed on longer if I had been able to seal off the edges, but my nails were so short it was a bit difficult. The next time I used RCM gel polish in Simply Stunning (a pale slightly shimmery nude color). This time I had gotten enough practice to really make my coats thin and it worked out fabulous. I'm trying to send all my friends the Ulta 20% coupon (5/26 is the last day) so they can get a kit for about $64. :) Now I hope to get a little creative with color combos and nail design. Thanks for the review.
