Blast from the Past: OPI Summer for Shore

OPI It's Summer for Shore collection

It's another Blast from the past and this week I'm taking you way back to OPI's limited edition Summer for Shore 03' collection.

In case you missed last weeks blast from the past, OPI's Mod about Bright, this collection is a mixture of my two favorite things - beaches and holographics! Yes, non DS!

If you're like me, I have no resistance when it comes to holographic nail polish. There's something particularly beautiful when the fine rainbow colored particles reflects off light to create a prismatic effect that has me swooning over every species.

By far, this has to be OPI's best collections of all time. And, we can only hope to see another awesome spread like this.

Let's get onto the swatches.

OPI Blue Moon Lagoon nail polish

OPI It's summer for shore collection

Blue Moon Lagoon, a pale shimmery powder blue holo.

OPI Coral Reef Nail Polish

OPI It's Summer for Shore holo collection

Coral Reef, a deep orange coral holo. This is a three coater (ignore text on image above).

OPI What's dune nail polish

OPI It's summer for shore holographic collection

What's Dune, one of the faintest colors of the collection, a pearly silvery white holo.

OPI Day at the Peach nail polish

Peach holographic nail polish

Day at the Peach, a light icy peach holo.

OPI Sand-erlla nail polish swatch

OPI Purple holographic nail polish

Sand-erella is insanely gorgeous. A pale purple that applied fairly light and needed four coats to achieve bottle color.

OPI Crim-Sun nail polish swatch

OPI Red holographic nail polish

Crim-Sun, a red hot sunset holo.

Let's start with the bad news, most of these colors are discontinued and hard to find. But you could still seek them out on Ebay if need be.

Hope you guys had a wonderful weekend!

I love 'em! I wish Sanderella would get re-released. I have Day at the Peach somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it for about four years. Not sure where it went.

Hi Steph,
Love your blog. You wrote: Always wrap the free edge or tip throughout each step. I didn't see this step in the video. Could you please explain how to do the wrap process and with what material. Thank you.

I am wondering if these gel polishes can be used with other gels. I have a different system with a different brand of base coat and top coat, can the different brands of gel mix?

I've had my kit for a couple of months now and love the way it lasts; but the Structure and Brilliance brushes are starting to stiffen and so is the gel in the bottles. Anyone else having that issue? Is there a way to thin them out?

Hi, does anyone know if I can thin out the red carpet base coat so that it is easier to apply?

Hi Prinzy,
It was a gorgeous color! I remember picking up a few bottles because I loved the color so much! lol! Actually, yes, I'm launching a store in the next couple of weeks. I have everything built, I'm just working on the Terms and Conditions right now, so it should be very, very soon.

I only have about 10 Studio M colors in the store currently, but I will be taking special pre-orders once it opens.

Hi Sarah,
I'm not sure about retail stores, but you can still find them on

Can I still buy them in the stores now?

I've been playing with this system for about a month now. I love it! When I first started I used the clear just so I could get a feel for it. Then I got adventurous and tried a "sandwich" with a China Glaze color. It probably would have stayed on longer if I had been able to seal off the edges, but my nails were so short it was a bit difficult. The next time I used RCM gel polish in Simply Stunning (a pale slightly shimmery nude color). This time I had gotten enough practice to really make my coats thin and it worked out fabulous. I'm trying to send all my friends the Ulta 20% coupon (5/26 is the last day) so they can get a kit for about $64. :) Now I hope to get a little creative with color combos and nail design. Thanks for the review.
