Nubar Modern Matte Collection: Swatches, Review

Nubar Modern Matte Collection

Product: Nubar Modern Matte Collection, Nail Lacquer 0.5 oz
Price: $7.49/ea
Steph's Rating:
Buy it: Nubar Online

This Fall, Nubar gives us Matte Mavens a couple different alternatives to the traditional glossy look. Modern Matte, one of their newest collections, is a small release of four stylish and sleek colors with a no-shine finish. Don't wanna splurge on an entire collection? No worries! Nubar offers a matte top coat that's a personal fave of mine called, V for Men. Stay tuned for a separate product review.

Each color is shimmer based, which I adore. And if you don't fancy matte textures, just slap on a shiny top coat and their just as spectacular - if not more! The application and formula was good - fast drying, smooth and opaque.

Check out the swatches!

Nubar Contempo Nail Polish

Overall, Good Collection. Nubar mattes are versatile - you can wear them glossy or matte. The formula was smooth, opaque and as always Big 3 Free.

What do you think of Nubar's Mattes? Love them, Hate them? Have a great night!

Wow, these look simply gorgeous! I already own Zoya's MatteVelvet in Posh, which is similar to Contempo. However, I would definitely purchase the other three! Thanks for posting the swatches! Beautiful as always. :)

I think the finish is lovely but the colors bore me to tears.

Prevail is gorgeous! I am new to your site, but I really love how you apply your polish! Can you do a how-to (if you don\\\'t already have one somewhere) of how you make it look so seamless?? I especially love how your polish looks at the edge of the cuticles!

Ooh, love those! I never thought I'd get into mattes with the first OPI flatte collection--if I wanted to buy one, I'd just as soon get some white-out, maybe dye it the color of my choice, and paint my nails with that. But I'm loving these new formulations of mattes that you've got here. I'm in fact planning on purchasing ALL of them if they come in a collection.

Hi Steph,
Love your blog. You wrote: Always wrap the free edge or tip throughout each step. I didn't see this step in the video. Could you please explain how to do the wrap process and with what material. Thank you.

I am wondering if these gel polishes can be used with other gels. I have a different system with a different brand of base coat and top coat, can the different brands of gel mix?

I've had my kit for a couple of months now and love the way it lasts; but the Structure and Brilliance brushes are starting to stiffen and so is the gel in the bottles. Anyone else having that issue? Is there a way to thin them out?

Hi, does anyone know if I can thin out the red carpet base coat so that it is easier to apply?

Hi Prinzy,
It was a gorgeous color! I remember picking up a few bottles because I loved the color so much! lol! Actually, yes, I'm launching a store in the next couple of weeks. I have everything built, I'm just working on the Terms and Conditions right now, so it should be very, very soon.

I only have about 10 Studio M colors in the store currently, but I will be taking special pre-orders once it opens.

Hi Sarah,
I'm not sure about retail stores, but you can still find them on

Can I still buy them in the stores now?

I've been playing with this system for about a month now. I love it! When I first started I used the clear just so I could get a feel for it. Then I got adventurous and tried a "sandwich" with a China Glaze color. It probably would have stayed on longer if I had been able to seal off the edges, but my nails were so short it was a bit difficult. The next time I used RCM gel polish in Simply Stunning (a pale slightly shimmery nude color). This time I had gotten enough practice to really make my coats thin and it worked out fabulous. I'm trying to send all my friends the Ulta 20% coupon (5/26 is the last day) so they can get a kit for about $64. :) Now I hope to get a little creative with color combos and nail design. Thanks for the review.
