Estee Lauder Surreal Violet for Fall 2010

Estee Lauder Surreal Violet

Estee Lauder Fall 2010 Nail Color

Surreal Violet ($18) is Estee Lauder's latest and greatest from the fall 2010 collection, Blue Dahlia - Surreal Violet. It's a neutral mixture of purple, greige, and mauve sprinkled with beautiful copper/bronze shimmer.

The formula is very smooth, and applies semi sheer after the first layer with buildable coverage. If you're looking for that lavender putty pay-off, I would highly recommend using three thicker coats. Since it's easy to work with, you shouldn't have any problems with dragging color or leaving bald areas on the nail.

Overall, is Surreal Violet pretty? Most definitely! Am I head over heels in love? Not quite! But maybe after a few wears I'll warm up to it.

Let's get to the downfall, which is a price tag of $18.00 for .3 oz.  I'd say if you love it, go for it! If you don't, opt for Essie's Demure Vixen. Keep in mind Demure Vixen is not an exact dupe, just a budget savvy substitute.

What do you guys think of Surreal Violet? Does this get two thumbs up or the boot? Have a great night!

Thumbs down! This is nothing extraordinary; pretty and safe.

It looks a little too princess to me with the sparkles and the violet. Not worth $18 IMO!

I like that color. I have some Estee nail polishes. They have nice colors and packaging; however, I found the nail polishes don't dry fast and the formula can become pretty thick after awhile.

although this is pretty, i find i actually prefer Demure Vixen

Like most people, I'm budgeting my polish purchases. But I think I'll be getting this! I don't own any Estee Lauder polishes so I'm hoping I like the formula. But I must say I'm really digging the color! I'm sure that I'll be craving rich shades in a month or so, but right now safe & neutral is really doing it for me.

I\'ve read nothing but good things about Lauder\'s polishes, and I like this color, especially w/the copper bronze shimmer.

Love it! Just got it & it's a great color for my light, pinkish skin. Most of the "greige" polishes are either too dark or too gray to look good on me. This is *Office Appropriate* with a subtle kick.

I think it's pretty unique and I'm going to order it :)

I got a lot of compliments the first day I wore this polish. It reminds me of an old Brucci nail polish I currently have that I bought years ago (no name on it - bleh) so I had to have this one. It's beautiful!

Hi Steph,
Love your blog. You wrote: Always wrap the free edge or tip throughout each step. I didn't see this step in the video. Could you please explain how to do the wrap process and with what material. Thank you.

I am wondering if these gel polishes can be used with other gels. I have a different system with a different brand of base coat and top coat, can the different brands of gel mix?

I've had my kit for a couple of months now and love the way it lasts; but the Structure and Brilliance brushes are starting to stiffen and so is the gel in the bottles. Anyone else having that issue? Is there a way to thin them out?

Hi, does anyone know if I can thin out the red carpet base coat so that it is easier to apply?

Hi Prinzy,
It was a gorgeous color! I remember picking up a few bottles because I loved the color so much! lol! Actually, yes, I'm launching a store in the next couple of weeks. I have everything built, I'm just working on the Terms and Conditions right now, so it should be very, very soon.

I only have about 10 Studio M colors in the store currently, but I will be taking special pre-orders once it opens.

Hi Sarah,
I'm not sure about retail stores, but you can still find them on

Can I still buy them in the stores now?

I've been playing with this system for about a month now. I love it! When I first started I used the clear just so I could get a feel for it. Then I got adventurous and tried a "sandwich" with a China Glaze color. It probably would have stayed on longer if I had been able to seal off the edges, but my nails were so short it was a bit difficult. The next time I used RCM gel polish in Simply Stunning (a pale slightly shimmery nude color). This time I had gotten enough practice to really make my coats thin and it worked out fabulous. I'm trying to send all my friends the Ulta 20% coupon (5/26 is the last day) so they can get a kit for about $64. :) Now I hope to get a little creative with color combos and nail design. Thanks for the review.
