Swatches, Comparison: Revlon Black with Envy

Revlon Black with Envy Nail Polish

Ever since Revlon gave us a sneak peek at Black with Envy, I've been obsessed with tracking it down - and that's exactly how Revlon describes this shade. Obsessed. Tagging along in the Backstage Revealed Display is Fashion's Night Pout Colorburst Lipstick created by Gucci Westman. An ultra-exclusive nude that was available only at Bone & Rags with a donation during Fashion's Night Out.

Are you ready for Black with Envy?

Revlon Spring 2011 Black with Envy

Revlon Black with Envy

Black with Envy is a black-based, gunmetal metallic with hints of silver and teal micro-shimmer. The blue-green shimmer is more visible in direct sunlight - it doesn't have that green sheen famously known in Black Pearl.

Application & Formula. Black with Envy has a metallic finish, but I found the application and formula easy to work with minimal brush stroke marks. If you encounter any problems, just be sure to apply in a steady, straight motion.

I've included two different looks above - two and three coat* coverage (*coats listed on image). If you're looking for more of a Black Pearl alternative, I would highly recommend layering with two coats only. With three coats, the black-base shines through and is much darker compared to Chanel.

Chanel Black Pearl Comparisons

Black with Envy has a deeper base color compared to Chanel's version, as you can see. The depth diminishes the teal shimmer from having a green tint like Black Pearl.

It falls somewhere between Steel and Black Pearl. Not too dark, but not too light. It's just right if you're looking for a middle man, but as far as a Chanel dupe goes, definitely not an exact match.

Revlon Black with Envy Nail Enamel and Fashion's Night Pout Lipstick is available from April to May for a limited time only. The retail cost is $4.99 and $8.99, and you can find them at Ulta, Kmart, Heb, Wegmans and other stores that carries Revlon cosmetics.

What do you think of Revlon's Black with Envy? Is it a good enough alternative to pass for Black Pearl? Have you spotted it in your area?

Hi Steph, Thanks to you, I got this color. You are right, it's not an exact Chanel dupe, but for the price point, it's dupe enough for me! : )

Hi Steph,
Love your blog. You wrote: Always wrap the free edge or tip throughout each step. I didn't see this step in the video. Could you please explain how to do the wrap process and with what material. Thank you.

I am wondering if these gel polishes can be used with other gels. I have a different system with a different brand of base coat and top coat, can the different brands of gel mix?

I've had my kit for a couple of months now and love the way it lasts; but the Structure and Brilliance brushes are starting to stiffen and so is the gel in the bottles. Anyone else having that issue? Is there a way to thin them out?

Hi, does anyone know if I can thin out the red carpet base coat so that it is easier to apply?

Hi Prinzy,
It was a gorgeous color! I remember picking up a few bottles because I loved the color so much! lol! Actually, yes, I'm launching a store in the next couple of weeks. I have everything built, I'm just working on the Terms and Conditions right now, so it should be very, very soon.

I only have about 10 Studio M colors in the store currently, but I will be taking special pre-orders once it opens.

I've been playing with this system for about a month now. I love it! When I first started I used the clear just so I could get a feel for it. Then I got adventurous and tried a "sandwich" with a China Glaze color. It probably would have stayed on longer if I had been able to seal off the edges, but my nails were so short it was a bit difficult. The next time I used RCM gel polish in Simply Stunning (a pale slightly shimmery nude color). This time I had gotten enough practice to really make my coats thin and it worked out fabulous. I'm trying to send all my friends the Ulta 20% coupon (5/26 is the last day) so they can get a kit for about $64. :) Now I hope to get a little creative with color combos and nail design. Thanks for the review.
