Icing
Great Gift Ideas for Nail Polish Lovers
On my recent trip to the Mall last week, I happened to stumble upon these awesome gift sets at Icing. Each nail polish set consists of five shades retailing between $12.99-$14.99 (set of 5). And usually, Icing has buy one get one half off too - so that's a steal!
The dark vampy set automatically took me back to OPI's France collection. Not to be a tease or anything, but I wont' be able to post swatches until tomorrow, hopefully *crossing fingers*. Sadly, the only way to capture percise images is with the sun.
Stay Tuned!

Stephs Closet Goes Green For March
This month, I'm giving tribute to all my green lovers out there by featuring my notd posts filled with lots of green nail candy. Besides purple, green is my ultimate favorite color and what better way to celebrate this March.
Just a little over a year ago, you wouldn't find many green shades in my collection. Infact, many grocery stores only carried one or two selections, if that. Now, green is becoming an obsessive addiction amoungst nail polish addicts (like myself), beauty lovers or just some of us looking to be a little more eco-conscious.
I'm starting with two new polishes (to me) that I picked up a few days ago at the Mall. These shouldn't be to hard to track down since I just snatched them up.
Icing's new spring color, Awkward ($4.50) is a vibrant green loaded with green and sublte light blue shimmer. Wow, this color is absolutely stunning.
Check out some comparisons below.
Awkward's pigmentation is outstanding compared to Rainforest which is on the semi-sheer side. Two coats of Awkward equals three coats of Rainforest.
L.A. Girls Flair nail color in Green is such a unique shade that I don't have another like her. Described as a forest creme with teal undertones.
It's hard to tell by my swatches, but this is definitely green and not more tealish. I love this one so much!
The formula was thick and pigmented like crazy. In all honestly, you'd only need one coat of green. My application was perfect and the wear lasted a good three days until I removed it.
Here's a comparison just to give you an idea where L.A. Girls green falls.
You can find L.A. Girls Flair at Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 stores which retails between $2.50 - $4.00. At forever 21 they were on clearance for $2.50. Hope your having a fabulous Sunday!

Going Green: Green Nail Pic Spam Part One

This is a great image of the actual color representation. For Audrey's unique shade can be rather difficult to capture digitally.
Happy Thursday! Today is the first little segment of my "Go Green" theme this March at Steph's Closet. Since I have so many greens to show you, I'll be breaking my posts into four seperate parts and featuring each part once a week.
I wanted to start off with a french mani, because you guys know how much I love those funky colors.
What I used: Two coats of China Glaze For Audrey and two coats of my favorite Sally Hansen Nail art pens for the white tips. The color combination just look stunning and only can image how hot this would look on those tootsies!

China Glaze, For Audrey a tiffany colored green - blue.
Claire's, Blue for you is a seafoam green with fine shimmer. Very pretty and feminine for spring.
Nars, Mash is a gorgeous deep olive bronze with gold shimmer. A stunning color, espically for summer. Looks fab on olive and darker skin tones.
Max Factor, Momentum Moss is dollar store gem, a olive gray metallic with shimmer.
Claire's, Green Confetti is a light green jelly glitter with subtle holographic effects.
Have you guys been in Claire's lately? They have some pretty spectacular shades for spring. I have a whole segment planned for those too!
Sally Hansen's, Jumpin Jade screams riches and luxury. A deep, rich green that's seriously gorgeous! A great drug store pick.
Maybelline's, Jade Flash is a green with blue undertones, but still falls in the green category.
And here's the two I posted a few days ago.

Icing, Awkward is a mid tone green with gold and subtle blue shimmer. A great alternative to OPI's, Rainforest.

LA Flairs Girl, Green is a deep green with blue undertones.
I'll be adding more to this post later this evening! Have a great one!

Limited Edition Nail Polish Sets from Icing
Happy Hump day! Hope your having an excellent Wednesday morning. Today I'm bringing you some fabulous limited edition sets from Icing by Claire's.
Last December during Christmas time, I discovered these nail polish sets at the mall. Unimpressed by the brush quality, I neglected to post my photo swatches. Having brush imperfections can make your application a nightmare to deal with.
When I saw the new spring colors at Icing, I just gasped and decided to give them another go around. And, I'm happy to report - No brush difficulties. Yay!
Confession time. So, the only reason I intitally picked up this set was due to the unqiueness of Ocean View and Retro Girl, but ended up loving them all! Good thing, a?
All five shades are loaded down with hot pink, gold, and purple micro shimmer. Although, the only shimmer you'll see is hot pink. Actually, I didn't even realize the various colors until I was swatching in the sun.
Some of the formulas were a littlle more sheer than I preferred, but that's ok - I'll deal because their super pretty. With any semi sheer nail polish, I pack the color on pretty thick - that way I won't be bothered with four coats. The drying time may be a little longer than usual, but it beats four coats.
Pure is a semi sheer white with hot pink shimmer that had better coverage than Icing's, Oceanview and China Glaze's, Kwik Silvr.
Ocean View, one of my favorites, a semi sheer seafoam green with pink shimmer.
Ocean View and Pure.
Tickled Pink is a light to medium pink with hot pink shimmer.
In Bloom is a lavendar purple with hot pink shimmer.
Retro Girl is beyond amazing and highly unique! Described as a muddy olive green brown with purple, gold and pink shimmer that had good pigmentation all around. My pictures may look brown, but there's defintely olive green in there. Take a peek at the product picture above.
Now, on to the bling bling. The glitters have an light tinted based and are filled with glitter and micro shimmer. I debated on whether posting my swatches because it's next to impossible to capture the actual colors.
Goldie Locks has a golden champagne base with gold, green and blue shimmer.
Sparklin Girl has a silvery purple base with gold, purple and silver shimmer.
Starry Eyes has a light blue base with silver and blue shimmer.
Oscar has a light lime green base with gold and silver shimmer.
Passion has a light pink base with pink, gold and silver shimmer.
Here's some other colors from Icing.
Blackout is a greyish black base loaded with silver and holographic glitter.
Luv U 2 Much is a clearish sandy base with silver and tan glitter. Super blingy.
Jem is a pink red loaded with silver shimmer.
Icing's Electrified reminds me of Misa's, Fatal Affair with a little bit more blue. A blueish purple base with an overlay of blue shimmer.
Hellooo Foil goodness! Oh my, I've never seen a foil polish this pigmented. Wow, almost looks like Minx foils!
Maggie is described as a silver foil that's packed with pigmentation you'll only need one coat.
A Girl Like You, another foil goodness, is a pink and silver foil. Excellent pigmentation, another one coater.
Here's a blurred pic just to show you how foily they just are!
Icing by Claire's nail polish is only available at Icing stores usually located in Malls. Pricing as follows: miniature bottles $2.50, Large bottles $4.50, LE colored set $14.99 and Glitter set $10.99. They always have buy one, get second half off specials.
So, I wanna hear - What's everyones favorites?

NOTD: Icing Roger That and Sunset Shimmer
Happy April Fools day! Can you believe it's April 1st already? To start the month off right, I'm super excited to show you guys two new colors from Icing by Claires.
Sunset Shimmer is one of the best peach shimmers I've seen in a long time. More peachy than MAC's Seasonal Peach and much lighter than Chanel's Orange Fizz and L.A. Sunset.
Check out one more NOTD below.
Roger That is just intoxicating! I suggest ya'll get over to Icing and grab a bottle or two! A must have color, espically if you love China Glaze's Watermelon Rind and Rodeo Fanatic.
Described as a marine blue green (mid tone teal) loaded down with aqua and silver shimmer. A more blue version of Watermelon Rind and teal version of Rodeo Fanatic. Just gorgeous!
Check out one more swatch below.
Hope you guys have a wonderful day - it's a perfect sunny day here!

NOTD: MAC Cosmetics Love and Friendship
Happy Thursday! Hope your having a wonderful week so far. Today's nail polish of the day is a new one from MAC's A Rose Romance Collection. When this collection was originally released, I was in Gatlinburg and didn't have a chance to check it out until now.
Looking at the bottle, I would have said, "this one don't look so unique?" But, boy was I wrong! Wow, what an interesting color... MAC describes Love & Friendship as a dirty mid tone lavendar creme on the website.
Not your typical lilac or lavendar shade. Perhaps a little mauvey plum and grey thrown in there to create a different species of purple that I'm totally digging. The overall color is really nice, and will probably appeal with most skintones.
Any Dupes? Not Really. I dug out my lilacs, lavendars and plummy grays, the only one that was remotely close is Icing's In Bloom, which is a shimmer in a LE set.
My Application was pretty good. No formula issues or streaking with three coats. Love & Friendship sold out super fast on MAC's website, but shouldn't be to hard to track down. Try Dillard's, Macy's or Nordstrom online.
Have a wonderful Pre-Friday, were almost there!

Limited Edition Mini Sets From Icing by Claires
Hope your having a wonderful Saturday afternoon. It actually turned out to be a beautiful day here in Kentucky ya'll. Today I'm bringing you another fabulous limited edition set from Icing that had me at "green glitter," hello.
Each set comes with five miniature nail polish bottles that retails for $10.99/set. The glitters are pretty spectacular, I'm just bummed that these are Limited Edition and not available in full sized bottles. Oh, how can you do this to us Icing?!
Oddly, every single glitter set that was stocked, didn't have a sticker at the bottom with the name?? Hmm, so that must mean their extra special!
On to the swatches.
Green Glitter is the one held repsonsible for my impulsive buy, a bright (not neon) grass green with sliver glitter. A bit semi sheer that needed four coats for bottle color. Very pretty.
Purple Glitter is a gorgeous deep purple with blue undertones and silver glitter. Great coverage in two coats.
Green and Purple glitter together. Two of my favorites.
Black Glitter is a rich black with silver glitter that had great coverage in two coats.
Red Glitter is a cherry red with silver glitter. Two coats for bottle coverage.
Ms. Red and Black.
White Glitter is a clearish base with white and blue chunkier glitter compared to the others. Three coats on each nail.
The Neon set was kinda my pity buy for the Buy one, get on half off deal. Most of these colors are available in full sized bottles, if you only wanted one or two. On all my neon swatches I used, one coat of white polish as a base and one without.
Neon Yellow always seems to be the problem child of neons, regardless of the brand. And, using a french white as a base cuts out half of my application time. Anymore, I amost always use a white base for yellow and green neons.
The next three really didn't need a white base coat, the color pigmentation was pretty good.
Orange and Purple Neon that had good coverage.
Pink Neon that also had good coverage. Have a great weekend!

Nail Polish of the Day: Icing by Claires Lily
Happy Friday! Hope your having a wonderful evening. Today's nail polish of the day is a new color from Icing by Claire's, Lily. Described as an opaque, gorgeous lilac creme. You'll only need two coats to achieve bottle color.
Love Icing polishes, but sometimes the brush comes out a little funky. That's certainly not going to stop me from buying them though, because the color selection rocks. I have about five other new colors I'll be posting in the next couple of days.
Check out a comparison below.
Icing's Lily and OPI's Done out in Deco are pretty similar, but not exact dupes. Lily is a little more gray toned comarped to OPI's slight bluer tones. Both are very gorgeous.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

New Nail Polish Colors from Icing
Happy Father's Day everyone! Hope you had a wonderful day. Today I'm bringing you some new Icing nail polish colors as promised. Besides the funky brush, these all are pretty fabulous shades. Check out all the swatches below.
Grape A Licious, a vibrant purple grape loaded with chunky pink and blue glitter. This one is pretty opaque, you'll only need two coats.
Pink Sparkle, a neon pink with holographic glitter. I haven't check out my comparisons yet, but I'm thinking this is exactly the same as Claire's Lulu Belle.
Sour Apple, a semi sheer apple green with gold shimmer. Three or four coats to achieve bottle color.
Hazelnut, a rich and fabulous hazelnut brown with shimmer.
Lily, a gorgeous lilac purple creme. OPI's Done out in Deco is a close dupe.
Ice Queen is a much deeper shade from most gray's I own, but with an added tinge of blue undertones that makes this one special.
I really thought Recycle and Kiss me Here were going to closer dupes, but as you can see, Ice Queen is much darker with some added stormy blue undertones. Really love this.
Have a wonderful night and Monday morning!

New Icing nail colors: I'm seeing Green
Happy Monday everyone! Hope ya'll had a wonderful weekend! Today I'm bringing you four new colors from Icing by Claire's and two of them being my favorite color, Green!
You've probably heard me say this a thousand times and I'll continue to say it, Icing's nail polish seriously rocks!
The unique shades are unbelievable. I just wish they'd work on improving the application brush a bit. Besides that, this would be a kick ass brand!
Everytime I visit my Icing store in the mall, it never ceases to amaze me that I come home with four bottles, at least. They always have updated colors, I love it!
Check em' out!
I can see why this is Laura's Fave, it's gorgeous. A bright seafoam green or minty green with fine subtle blue and silver shimmer. The blue shimmer makes this a tad bit more blue toned compared to Essie's Greenport.
Bad Apple is by far an amazing green and quickly becoming one of my favorites. A semi sheer jelly that's darker than Essie's Dominica Green, but equally beautiful. Green Lovers, this is a must have! Run, hike or drive to your nearest Icing, it's well worth it.
Paparazzi is a rustic orange with silver and holographic glitter. You know I'm all for bling, so I couldn't pass this one up.
I passed up Taylor at least four times before I actually snatched her up. The unique blend of light pink and slight lavender undertones kept pulling me in.
You can find these at Icing stores (USA, Canada) usually located in your local Mall. The nail polishes retail for $4.50/ea and they have buy one, get one half of deals going on regularly.
Have a great Monday!

Go Green this Summer with Nubar
Happy Monday, Ladies! It's August and Summer has offically kicked in high gear with blazing temperatures. And what better way to cool off with Nubar's fabulous Going Green Collection.
If you've been reading the nail blogs, you know this collection is hot, sweet and just plain incredible for us green nail polish fanatics! Thank you Nubar for making our nail polish dreams come true!
The going green collection is a limited edition release consisting of six bodacious greens from crème to shimmer - to holographic to duochrome; whatever your preference.
A litte Nubar History, if your not familar with the brand. In 2000, Nubar was founded as the healthy alternative for beautiful nails. After being affected by cancer within his own family, Nubar’s creative force, Noubar Abrahamian, was uniquely committed to his role as a pioneer in producing the highest quality nail care products that were free of formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP (phthalate). These common ingredients are included in California’s Proposition 65, which lists chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm, and nubar’s exclusive formula omits these components as well as their derivatives without sacrificing quality.
You guys ready for some swatches?
Introducing the first true green holo on the market, Reclaim. A light grassy green holo that screams hotness.
Forest, a rich forest green creme that's a tad bit lighter than RBL's Recycle.
Conserve, a gorgeous green teal loaded with glitter. A bit more green than blue.
Nubar has some amazing duochrome shades and Wildlife being one of them. A mossy green when applied at first that flashes bronze, pink and green at the same time. Wowzers!
Earth is a more blue version of Conserve loaded with glitter.
Greener is a rich, dark emerald green shimmer that's absolutely stunning!
Now let's talk about application...Perfecto, every single one of them! Even though I'm a die hard three coater, you could get by with two coats on each color.
The Going Green collection is still available online at ByNubar, don't miss out on this fabulous release. Have a wonderful night!

Icing Limited Edition Black Glitter Set
Product: Icing LE Black Glitter Set, Nail Lacquer 0.40
Price: $16.00/set or BOGOHO
Steph's Rating:
Buy it: Icing Stores in the Mall
Happy Friday Diva's! Here in the Kentucky/Ohio region we're being drenched by massive rain, so I hope you guys are keeping warm and dry today! To end this week on a good note, let's start with a nifty black glitter set from Icing.
I'm sure you've heard me talk about Icing quite a bit in the past, so for those who aren't familiar to the brand I wanted to do a quick little recap. For me, Icing is a Hit or Miss. A Hit: The color selection is absolutely fabulous - you'll find unique and unusual colors every time. A Miss: However, the application is the downside - more so the applications brush. And it probably just boils down to a fixable manufacturer defect. With all that being said, I continue to stalk my icing for rare and amazing colors!
The formula on these were a hit and miss like I mentioned above. Some colors applied perfectly, while others were a pain. Are you ready for some swatches?!
Check em' out!
Blackened Green was the color that hooked me, a semi sheer black with green glitter.
Blackened Blue is a black with blue glitter.
Blackened Gold was a bit thick and gloopy, a black with gold glitter.
Blackened Purple is a black with purple glitter.
Blackened Brown is a black with orange/brown glitter.
Overall, Good Collection. The formula is a tad sheerer than Milani's Black Magic Collection. I found the price of $16.00 for a set of five to be pricey, but if you take advantage of Buy One, Get One Half Off it's a good deal. And according to my bottles, Icing polishes are Big 3 Free.
Stayed tuned, I have another Icing Fall Set to post that's gorgeous! How do you feel about Icing's Polishes? Love them, Hate them? Have a wonderful Friday!

The Best of Halloween 2009: Nail Polish Exclusives
Happy Halloween, Ghost and Goblins! Are you guys ready for the big H tonight? Yesterday we celebrated with some friends at our house, and this evening I'm ready for some good ole Rest and Relaxation.
To ring in this ghoulish holiday, I'm bringing you some limited edition and/or exclusive nail colors that are floating around your local drugstore.
Let's start off with my favorite from the bunch, China Glaze. Check out all the Hallo-Spam below!
Spellbound Top Coat is a sparkly orange and silver glitter with small and medium round glitter. Even though this is meant for a topper, you can wear alone or over your favorite nail color. Personally I love this layered over any silver foil (pictured above).
Fortune Teller is a Sally Beauty exclusive that's nothing but fabulous. An opaque black loaded with orange round and hexagon shaped glitter.
Next we have some colors from Phantom Frights aka Blue Cross Beauty. You can find these at Rite Aid or Meijer stores in the Halloween section.
Black is a black creme.
Black Glitter is a black with silver glitter.
Black Glitter is a black with silver glitter mattified with China Glaze Matte Magic.
Green is a Neon Green.
Orange is a Neon Orange.
Pink is a Pink Neon.
Black Holographic is a smokey black with holographic glitter.
Teal is a blue green neon. Application and formula was streaky.
Confetti is a orange and black confetti glitter.
Besides Spellbound and Fortune Teller, Toxic is one my favorite Halloween exclusives this year. It's a gorgeous shimmery green. I've only seen Claw Polishes available at Meijer and Kroger's in my area.
Bloodshed is a red creme.
VooDoo is an exclusive from last year, a red glittery top coat.
Sinister is a black creme.
Walmart Green (no official name or brand) is a mini size blue green creme that's well worth a buck at Walmart.
Walmart Orange is another mini size exclusive from Walmart. Application and formula was finicky.
Black Magic is a Wet n Wild exclusive that's been around for a few years. A multi-colored, confetti glitter in a clear base. Great for layering.
Magical is a red, gold and silver glitter in a clear base. Another good one for layering.
Harvest Party is a multi-colored glitter franken I created using clear nail polish and Martha Stewart's Glitter.
And last but not least, my orange and black tiger striped mani. Originally, this was my Cincinnati Bengal's manicure a few weeks ago, but it's very Halloween-ish - Don't cha think?
For more Halloween coverage, check out Milani's Black Magic, Color Club's Master of Disguise, MAC's Style Black, and/or Icing's Black Glitter set. .
Do you guys have any Halloween plans? Hope you have a wonderful night, be safe!

Fall 09: Icing Limited Edition Nail Polish Set
Product: Icing 5 piece Nail Polish Set, Nail Lacquer 0.4 oz
Price: $15.99/per kit
Steph's Rating:
Buy it: Icing Stores
Now that you've seen the Gothic Lovin' side of Icing's Halloween Set, it's time to bring you more of a reserved, Fall collection of teal, purple, orange, taupe and black shimmers that's right up my alley.
The formula and application was a total hit for me, and quite honestly that doesn't happen as often as I'd like from Icing. Each color is shimmer based with either gold or silver. Like most Limited Edition collections, there's no official polish names.
Are you ready guys for some swatches?
Orange Shimmer is a hard shade to describe. Is it Orange or is it Pink? Maybe even a rustic combo of red, pink and orange with gold shimmer.
Teal Shimmer is really gorgeous, blue based teal with silver shimmer.
Purple Shimmer is a frosty Purple.
Black Shimmer is a deep, olive brown with gold shimmer. It's a bit more olive green compared to China Glaze Wagon Trail, both are very similar.
Khaki Shimmer is a cross between gray and khaki with silver shimmer.
Overall, Good Collection! A great selection of colors for Fall. Each shade was opaque and applied fairy well with two coats. Formula is Big 3 Free. Makes great holiday gifts for any nail polish lover.
What do you guys think of the colors in this set? I have a special treat for my glitter vixens, stay tuned for massive bling, bling from Icing's Holiday Mini Set.

Get Your Bling On With Icing's New Glitter Set
Collection: Icing Mini Holiday Gold Set, Set of 5 minis .21 oz/ea
Price: $12.99/Set
Steph's Rating:
Buy it: Icing Stores
When the holidays come rockin' around, we can expect to see lots of bling and Icing's miniature glitter set has me jumping for joy this season.
Maybe it's the gold packaging or perhaps the sparkly goodness that caught my eye. Whatever the case may be, these are fab. And we all know being fabulous doesn't always come cheap. Each mini set is priced on the high side at $12.99/kit, but if you love glitter as much as I do, it's well worth the splurge.
The texture is similar to China Glaze's Specialty Collection in the sense of Opalescent (holo-like qualities), Hex and small, square glitter particles loaded with color. Yes, full of opaqueness!
Are you ready for some Bling, Bling? Check em' out!
Who loves White Nail Polish? I do, I do and I absolutely heart White Gliter for Winter. It's packed with loads of opalescent and hex glitter. A definite fave of mine!
Red Glitter is a great red to sport at Holiday events or Christmas.
Gold Glitter is a warm toned gold loaded with Opalescent and Hex Glitter.
Do I really need a description for this gorgeous Green Glitter! Wow, it's amazing and have nothing like her!
Blue Glitter is a Turquoise Blue with Opalescent and Hex Glitter.
Overall, Awesome Collection! Upside: Perfect Holiday gifts for Christmas, Secret Santa or just treating yourself. Formula is Big 3 Free and all shades are two - three coaters. Downside: I found the price tag of $12.99 to be a bit high. But Icing usually has BOGOHO specials, which may offset the difference. The small, limited edition bottles may be a disadvantage because the colors rock!
What does my Glitter lovers think of Icing's new set? Have a great afternoon!

Icing by Claire's: Mint 2 Be Nail Polish
I'd like to introduce the new kid on the block. She's sassy, refreshing and worth jetting to your nearest mall to snatch her up. Mint 2 Be is Icing's newest addition, she's described as a creamy, pale mint green pastel.
The application was dreamy more or less... Is that even possible from a pastel? Even though the formula was on the thick side and even applied semi streaky, it dried to perfection. No streaks or bald spots with two coats.
Check out one more swatch below.
If you're wondering and I know you are, Mint 2 Be is more pale and lighter to most pastel greens I own. Since I haven't had a chance to compare, I'm guessing Icing's might fall close to China Glaze Re-fresh Mint.
Can you handle all these mint greens? Why yes, I think we can! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Going Green: Icing Lucky Charm, Lucky Lady
Are you guys ready for a double shot of GREEN from Icing by Claire's? I'm uber excited to share two new colors that's hot off the press. Lucky Charm (above) is the perfect glitter to sport on St. Patty's Day. It's described as a fine green glitter based in a clear polish.
Even though I used four coats in my swatch above, you can probably get by with three thicker ones. And the finish dries to a gritty matte texture - but nothing a thick top coat can't fix.
Check out Lucky Lady below.
I feel like one Lucky Lady to stumble upon this gorgeous green, on top of that it's a shimmering MATTE! Everyone's hoping aboard the matte train nowadays including Icing. They had a few other colors to choose from, but nothing as spectacular as this one.
How is the application you ask? No swipe lines! Absolutely flawless! Perfection! I'd say Lucky Lady is one of the slowest drying mattes out there, which is what I prefer anyways.
Check out a glossy version below.
And if you're not a matte lover, no worries - just add a glossy top coat.
When I first saw Lucky Lady, Veruschka came to mind. As you can see, Zoya's has much more shimmer, but all in all both are close in base color.
What do you think of Icing's new greens? Have a wonderful Thursday!
